Our Mission

We exist to alleviate poverty and help better the lives of Singapore’s poorest, most vulnerable families and individuals. We’re here to help build as inclusive a society as possible. We do this with initiatives that build stable families, enable economic well-being, promote good health, facilitate education and learning, create safe spaces and nurture caring communities.

Beyond Social Services is a community development agency in the service of a community’s efforts to meet its needs. We adopt an asset-based community development approach and work at bringing about neighbourhoods where there is a strong sense of interdependence among neighbours so that families and communities can care for themselves and each other.

While we attend to those seeking assistance, our core work is leading a community development process in 68 public rental housing blocks located mainly in the Central Singapore District. These blocks are organised by proximity into 17 neighbourhood clusters.

Make Room to Belong 2026

The families we journey with live in public rental housing and navigate financial strain. But they are also parents who organise activities for their neighbours, youth who step forward to help others, and children who bring curiosity and energy to the communities around them. These strengths are already at work. Residents are already leading, connecting, and looking out for one another. Make Room to Belong is about creating more opportunities for this to happen. It is about neighbours coming together around shared concerns, children having places where they can learn and express themselves, and youth discovering their voice and their place in the community. Your donation helps make these opportunities possible. It supports programmes and activities where residents can take ownership of what matters to them. Because belonging doesn’t happen by accident. A Community That Looks Out For Seniors

The Power of One Ferlynn had lived in her block for close to a decade when she noticed an elderly neighbour standing at the void deck asking passersby for loose change. She began stopping to talk with her. One Chinese New Year, she arrived at the auntie's unit with vegetarian dishes — and found her lying on the floor, unresponsive. She stayed for close to an hour until help arrived, and later connected the auntie with a social service agency for long-term support. That experience showed her how much a single person paying attention could matter. From Concern to Action When Ferlynn decided she wanted to do more, our community workers connected her with Mazleena, a neighbour who shared the same concern. Through the Community Enabler Fellowship, Beyond equips residents with the tools and support to turn personal concern into organised community action. Together, they became the founding partners of the Sweet Heart Care Team — recruiting nine volunteers, door-knocking to check on elderly residents, organising activities, and flagging a slippery pathway that was a hazard for seniors. A Community In The Making The initiative reshaped daily life on the block. Auntie Ah Mei and Loke See Foong had lived on the same floor for six years without properly speaking. Today, they meet daily for kopi. Makcik Salmah and Makcik Su reflected that life in old kampungs meant neighbours were naturally connected and less isolated than in modern HDB living. "Now at least someone wants to know how we are doing," they shared. The fellowship cycle has long ended but the team still gathers every month, and the friendships they’ve built with the seniors never wane.
