Strong Families Help Youths Thrive Every young person needs a support system they can turn to through life's challenges. For many youths, that support begins at home. According to the National Youth Council's The State of Youth in Singapore 2024 , 4 in 10 youths do not believe that maintaining strong family relationships is an important life goal. As family bonds weaken, many young people may lack the emotional support and relational resilience needed to navigate stress, uncertainty and major life transitions. Introducing FamChamps ® FamChamps ® was launched in 2014 as a youth development initiative that raises young family champions who believe in, live out and champion family. The programme begins with an immersive camp experience and continues through an 8-month developmental journey for youths aged 13 to 14. Participants discover the importance of family, learn practical skills for building stronger relationships at home and are encouraged by trusted mentors who journey alongside them. Key programme components include: 1. FamQuest: An interactive role-playing experience that challenges youths to navigate realistic family situations and understand the consequences of different choices. 2. Youth Mentoring : Dedicated mentors provide guidance, encouragement and coaching as participants apply what they have learnt in their daily lives. 3. Honour Night : A meaningful milestone where youths are given the opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation to their parents and caregivers. Since its launch, FamChamps has impacted 1,607 youths. Family Values Are Shaped Early In Singapore, children aged 3 to 6 spend a significant portion of their day in preschool. These formative years present a valuable opportunity to nurture qualities such as gratitude, empathy, resilience and a strong sense of belonging. At Focus on the Family Singapore, we believe that family plays a vital role in every child's development. Raising the Next Generation of Family Champions FamChamps Junior is a family-centric character development programme that is integrated directly into the preschool curriculum. Through interactive activities, guided reflection and practical application, children learn how they can play a meaningful role within their families. The programme nurtures three key outcomes: Believe in Family: Children discover their family origin, heritage and unique place within their family story. Live Out Family: Children learn to express gratitude, appreciation and care towards parents, grandparents and loved ones. Champion Family: Children are encouraged to put these values into action through everyday acts of kindness, love and respect at home.
