You would think that when Mama or Papa comes home from prison, the hardest part is over. The family is together again. The child has their parent back. But it doesn’t always work like that. A lot can happen while a parent is away. A child grows up. Someone else packs their school bag, comforts them when they’re upset, celebrates their birthdays and becomes the person they turn to every day. So when Mama or Papa comes home months or even years later, they may love each other deeply, but they also have to get to know each other again. It can be hard for the parent too. There’s the guilt of everything they missed, the awkwardness of not quite knowing where they fit anymore, and the realisation that being released from prison is one thing, but becoming someone your child can depend on again takes time. One of our Mamas once told us: “I tell myself, no, I cannot give up. This is my daughter. I must make sure my daughter knows me, I’m her mommy.” – Sarah (not her real name), NLS Mama That stayed with us because having a relationship with their child can give a parent something important to keep showing up for. Birthdays they don’t want to miss, ordinary days they want to be around for, and a relationship they don’t want to lose again. And there’s something important in this for the child too. Research looking at children affected by parental incarceration has found that closeness with their parents can be a protective factor against some behavioural difficulties.* That’s one reason we care so much about rebuilding these relationships, where it is safe and appropriate. At New Life Stories, we support parents with the difficult work of reconnecting with their children, through parenting and emotional support, family work and opportunities to spend time together. Because having Mama or Papa physically home is one thing. Having a parent who listens, keeps their promises, knows what is happening in your life and gradually becomes someone you can depend on again is another. Your donation helps make that work possible. It helps give families the time and support they need to rebuild what incarceration may have disrupted. We can’t give a child the years they lost with their parent. But we can help families work towards something better for the years ahead: school mornings together, birthdays, conversations before bed, hugs, difficult conversations and ordinary afternoons with Mama or Papa simply being there. This isn’t only about giving a parent a second chance. It’s about helping that second chance make a difference to their child too. Help a child get their parent back. *Source: 2023 systematic review of 61 studies examining parental incarceration and child wellbeing, published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

The end of the year is often a season children look forward to. School holidays, festive celebrations, family outings and, before long, the excitement of starting a new school year. But someone has to make all of that happen. Behind many of the children we support is a caregiver thinking about what to do during the school holidays, making festive plans, keeping the children occupied, and then getting everything ready for a brand new school year. For caregivers in families affected by incarceration, many of whom have stepped in to care for a child when a parent cannot, it can be an especially tiring season. And somewhere in all that caring, there can be very little time left for themselves. Sometimes, what a caregiver needs isn't another thing to do. It's simply a few hours where they don't have to be the one taking care of everyone else. That's something we intentionally make space for through our Blessed Mums caregiver sessions. Childminding is provided at each session, so caregivers can have a proper break knowing the children are safe and cared for nearby. For those few hours, they can enjoy a meal with other caregivers who understand, bake, try a craft, learn something new or simply sit and have a conversation without having to keep one eye on the children. Your donation can give a caregiver those few hours. A few hours to rest. To enjoy themselves. To talk to another adult. To do something simply because they enjoy it. It might sound like a small thing. But when so much of your time is spent caring for everyone else, a few hours that belong to you can mean a lot. And when caregivers have the chance to rest, recharge and feel supported, they can return to the children who depend on them with a little more in their own cup. This busy season, give a caregiver something they so rarely get: time for themselves. 💛

Give 153 Children a Ready Start to the New School Year 🎒 Remember getting ready for a new school year as a child? A new school bag, new shoes, fresh stationery, a new lunch box. Maybe you even packed everything the night before because you were excited for the first day. They might seem like simple things now, but as a child, having everything you needed helped you feel ready for school. This year, 153 children supported by New Life Stories will be getting ready for their first day too. For families affected by parental incarceration, buying everything a child needs for school can add extra pressure to an already stretched household budget. A backpack, shoes, stationery and all the other little expenses can quickly add up. This Giving Season, you can take one of those worries off a family’s shoulders. We hope to raise $42,840 to provide all 153 children with a complete school kit for 2027. $280 equips one child with: 🎒 Backpack 👟 School shoes ✏️ Stationery 🍱 Lunch box 🎫 Voucher for other school expenses For a child, it means something very simple: turning up on the first day with what they need, just like everyone else. At New Life Stories, we believe children should have a fair chance to learn and grow, regardless of circumstances they had no choice in. This is one of the practical ways our community can make that possible. $280 gives one child a ready start. $42,840 gives all 153 children one. Sponsor a fairer start this Giving Season.

Give a Child Something to Look Forward to This Christmas 🎄 You know that feeling as a child when there was something coming up that you just couldn’t wait for? Maybe it was Christmas morning. A family outing. Opening a present. Or simply knowing there was going to be something special that week. We want the children we support to have those moments too. Last year, New Life Stories supported 153 children affected by parental incarceration. For some of them, having a parent in prison means growing up with experiences they never chose: separation from someone they love, changes at home, financial pressures, or simply noticing that their family looks a little different from everyone else’s. Christmas can make some of those differences feel especially noticeable. But here’s the part you can be part of. Your donation can put something good on a child’s calendar. It can mean a festive activity to look forward to, books and learning materials, school essentials for the year ahead, or a family learning journey where they get to spend a day making happy memories with the people caring for them. And these experiences sit within something much bigger. Through our Family Strengthening Programme, we work with children, parents and caregivers throughout the year, helping children learn, build trusted relationships, stay connected to family and have the support they need to move forward. In 2025, 80% of the children we supported showed improvement in literacy. Because a child cannot choose whether their parent goes to prison. But together, we can help shape what happens next. When you give to New Life Stories this Christmas, you’re not simply paying for an activity or buying a child something nice. You’re becoming part of the support system around a child. You’re helping give them opportunities, experiences and people in their corner that remind them their circumstances do not have to decide their future. This Christmas, sponsor a fairer start for a child. 💛

Breastfeeding can be a beautiful journey, but it can also be challenging, overwhelming and lonely. Sometimes, a mother doesn't need another article to read or another piece of advice, she simply needs someone who has been there, who understands, and who is willing to listen. At Breastfeeding Mothers' Support Group (BMSG), we believe in the power of mothers supporting mothers. BMSG trains mothers who have breastfed for at least 9 months, including both past and current breastfeeding mothers, to become breastfeeding counsellors. Today, we have around 60 volunteer counsellors on our roster, generously giving their time to support other mothers because they understand what it feels like to navigate the challenges of breastfeeding firsthand. Our counsellors provide one-to-one support for mothers who need guidance with breastfeeding, as well as group support sessions where mothers can meet in welcoming spaces such as cafés and parks to connect, share their experiences and find encouragement from others who truly understand. While breastfeeding is at the heart of our conversations, support doesn't always have to be about breastfeeding. Sometimes, a mother simply needs a listening ear from another mother who gets it. Our volunteer counsellors are at the heart of BMSG's support network. As breastfeeding knowledge and recommendations continue to evolve, it is important that our counsellors are equipped with current, evidence-based information and skills so that they can provide mothers with safe, relevant and compassionate support. Your donation will help BMSG train and equip more mother-to-mother counsellors, strengthen the knowledge of our existing counsellors, and expand our ability to reach mothers who need support. Your donation doesn't just fund training. It helps create a community where no mother has to feel alone in her breastfeeding journey. Together, we can empower more mothers to support mothers.

After illness, injury or stroke, everyday life can change in ways many people don't see. At ABLE Singapore, therapists work alongside individuals and their caregivers to rebuild daily routines, confidence and independence at home, in the community and back at work. Recovery is not linear. It grows through encouragement, opportunity and consistent support. Your support makes therapy accessible, opens pathways back to work and strengthens caregivers. Because rebuilding life happens one step at a time. Peter's Story: Rediscovering Everyday Confidence In 2022, recurrent strokes changed how Peter moved, spoke and managed daily life. Simple tasks like showering or dressing became difficult, and his confidence suffered. His wife, Shu Ning, stayed by his side. At ABLE, therapy sessions gave them simple exercises and practical adaptations to continue at home. One milestone stood out: Peter cooking a simple dish again. Small wins like this slowly restored his independence and brought joy back into their home. For Peter and Shu Ning, recovery means finding hope in everyday moments again.

Life changes for everyone affected by the dementia diagnosis. Despite that, it is still possible to live well and there are support available to help your loved one cope with their condition. Dementia Singapore provides essential services and support to families impacted by dementia. We also provide caregiver support including training on how to care for persons with dementia. Through our various programmes we help: • persons with dementia to maintain or improve their functional status, social engagement, mood and overall well-being • provide relief for caregivers, help to alleviate caregiver burden for families and increase their abilities to cope with, and continue caring for their loved ones. According to the Well-being of the Singapore Elderly (WiSE) study led by the Institute of Mental Health in 2024, one in 11 people aged 60 and above may have dementia . With increased life expectancy and a rapidly ageing population in Singapore, this number is expected to increase to 152,000 by 2030 (Healthhub.sg). This creates an urgency to prepare our society as a whole to live with dementia. Adequate support must thus be in place to ensure that their quality of life is not adversely impacted. As a regular donor of the dementia cause, you belong to a special group of Dementia Singapore’s most passionate and forward-thinking supporters. Your gift can help provide the sustained resources needed to scale Dementia Singapore’s work.

Strong Families Help Youths Thrive Every young person needs a support system they can turn to through life's challenges. For many youths, that support begins at home. According to the National Youth Council's The State of Youth in Singapore 2024 , 4 in 10 youths do not believe that maintaining strong family relationships is an important life goal. As family bonds weaken, many young people may lack the emotional support and relational resilience needed to navigate stress, uncertainty and major life transitions. Introducing FamChamps ® FamChamps ® was launched in 2014 as a youth development initiative that raises young family champions who believe in, live out and champion family. The programme begins with an immersive camp experience and continues through an 8-month developmental journey for youths aged 13 to 14. Participants discover the importance of family, learn practical skills for building stronger relationships at home and are encouraged by trusted mentors who journey alongside them. Key programme components include: 1. FamQuest: An interactive role-playing experience that challenges youths to navigate realistic family situations and understand the consequences of different choices. 2. Youth Mentoring : Dedicated mentors provide guidance, encouragement and coaching as participants apply what they have learnt in their daily lives. 3. Honour Night : A meaningful milestone where youths are given the opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation to their parents and caregivers. Since its launch, FamChamps has impacted 1,607 youths. What Your Donation Makes Possible Your gift will help 100 youths participate in a transformative journey that strengthens family relationships, builds resilience and nurtures positive mental wellbeing. Strong families do not happen by accident. They are built through everyday acts of understanding, communication and care. Your donation helps equip youths with the tools, support and opportunities they need to strengthen relationships at home and become a positive influence within their families and communities. Donate today and help raise the next generation of family champions.

Family Values Are Shaped Early In Singapore, children aged 3 to 6 spend a significant portion of their day in preschool. These formative years present a valuable opportunity to nurture qualities such as gratitude, empathy, resilience and a strong sense of belonging. At Focus on the Family Singapore, we believe that family plays a vital role in every child's development. Raising the Next Generation of Family Champions FamChamps Junior is a family-centric character development programme that is integrated directly into the preschool curriculum. Through interactive activities, guided reflection and practical application, children learn how they can play a meaningful role within their families. The programme nurtures three key outcomes: Believe in Family: Children discover their family origin, heritage and unique place within their family story. Live Out Family: Children learn to express gratitude, appreciation and care towards parents, grandparents and loved ones. Champion Family: Children are encouraged to put these values into action through everyday acts of kindness, love and respect at home. A Parent's Perspective One parent shared how the programme created meaningful change at home: "Since completing the FamChamps Junior programme, Emma has become more loving and thoughtful, from helping with groceries to giving thanks for her grandma's safe return. It's heartwarming for us to see her care and warmth toward her family members." Parent of a 5-year-old FamChamps Junior participant This is the impact we hope to multiply across 600 children and their families. What Your Donation Makes Possible Your support will help more children experience the full FamChamps Junior journey and grow into young family champions who value and strengthen their relationships at home. Together, we can support 10 preschools and equip 600 children with values that foster stronger families and healthier communities. Help Raise 600 Young Family Champions Your donation will help nurture children who believe in family, live out family values and champion stronger relationships at home. Sue's Journey of Growth in Foster Care When Sue* was just five years old, she entered foster care after circumstances made it unsafe for her to remain at home. Sue's journey was far from an easy one. Developmental challenges made it difficult for her to communicate her needs and emotions. At school and with her foster family, her feelings of frustration would sometimes surface through challenging behaviours, leaving those around her struggling to understand her. With the support around her, Sue gradually began participating more activity in school and daily activities. Watching Sue blossom reminds her foster family that every challenge, every step forward and every moment of patience has been worth it. At Singapore Buddhist Free Clinic, your support helps make affordable TCM care accessible to those in need — so they can seek care, continue treatment, care for their well-being, and gradually return to everyday life. Every donation is more than helping with medical expenses. It is giving someone a chance to continue caring for their health, restore their daily life, and be there for their loved ones. One Gift. One Health Journey. One More Reason to Hope. Healthcare should not become out of reach because of financial difficulties. Together, let’s make care more accessible, hope more tangible, and every health journey a little less difficult.
