Breastfeeding can be a beautiful journey, but it can also be challenging, overwhelming and lonely. Sometimes, a mother doesn't need another article to read or another piece of advice, she simply needs someone who has been there, who understands, and who is willing to listen. At Breastfeeding Mothers' Support Group (BMSG), we believe in the power of mothers supporting mothers. BMSG trains mothers who have breastfed for at least 9 months, including both past and current breastfeeding mothers, to become breastfeeding counsellors. Today, we have around 60 volunteer counsellors on our roster, generously giving their time to support other mothers because they understand what it feels like to navigate the challenges of breastfeeding firsthand. Our counsellors provide one-to-one support for mothers who need guidance with breastfeeding, as well as group support sessions where mothers can meet in welcoming spaces such as cafés and parks to connect, share their experiences and find encouragement from others who truly understand. While breastfeeding is at the heart of our conversations, support doesn't always have to be about breastfeeding. Sometimes, a mother simply needs a listening ear from another mother who gets it. Our volunteer counsellors are at the heart of BMSG's support network. As breastfeeding knowledge and recommendations continue to evolve, it is important that our counsellors are equipped with current, evidence-based information and skills so that they can provide mothers with safe, relevant and compassionate support. Your donation will help BMSG train and equip more mother-to-mother counsellors, strengthen the knowledge of our existing counsellors, and expand our ability to reach mothers who need support. Your donation doesn't just fund training. It helps create a community where no mother has to feel alone in her breastfeeding journey. Together, we can empower more mothers to support mothers.
